Watch a Freaking Movie! - Auntie Mame

As a child, my Mom exposed me to what we lovingly called "old movies;" the films that she knew and loved as a youth. The most important, or at least, the most favorite of mine, was Auntie Mame. As this story has been made and re-made, adapted and adopted, I will specify that the version that won my heart and stands almost alone in my mind is the 1958 review, starring the absolutely beautiful Rosalind Russell.
Can you even? Because I can't, even.

Mame is a wealthy socialite who finds that she is to care for her formerly astranged nephew. Mame's 1920s Kardashian lifestyle is of questionable repute in the name of caring for a child, and thus hilarity (and a few other emotions) ensue.

I love this movie because they simply don't make them like this anymore. The comedic timing is on point, the gags are simple but effective, and the wardrobe and sets are simply magnificent. As a child, I remember mentally and visually perseverating on very particular details of the movie; the fringe on Mame's scarf, the jingle of ice in a tumbler. This was possibly because the more "adult" themes and topics of the movie swooped over my head, but even still it was a movie I enjoyed thoroughly seeing, while I was watching it.

I want to include every scene from this movie in this post. I want to sit and watch it with you, Blog Reader, and point out, actually touch the screen so you see what I'm referring to, my favorite details about every cigarette, every mink. But I feel like that would be illegal, and at the very least, annoying.

So I'll include this; a scene that still makes me laugh out loud.

I also like to think I have a little bit of clout on the matter, seeing as I actually AM someone's AUNTIE MAME, but I certainly don't like to go waving my credentials all over the place. If you decide to watch this movie, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, invite me over. It's just that good.

Watching anything exciting? OR TERRIBLE?! Let us know in the comments section!

Love and gin martinis, stirred, never shaken,
