Recently I was wishing that
I had some bigger earrings, and couldn’t think of any particular supplies that
I had to make what I was interested in. I opened my drawer full of assorted
junk that I save in case it could one day become a craft of some kind. I didn’t
find too much that seemed useful, until I came upon some paper.
So, most of this jewelry
won’t last for very long, but it’s pretty much free, and the parts can just be
used again to make something new when the paper parts give out. The paper is old from old shopping bags and cards I bought to make business cards that didn't end up existing, which were mostly just going to get recycled anyway. So it doesn’t
waste resources. Since it’s quite inexpensive to both myself and to the
environment, I can make things that are maybe a little wilder and bigger than I
would otherwise.
I also did this weird thing
where I essentially made, like, a set of matching jewelry. Don’t get any ideas;
I don’t wear them together. I never wear anything that matches. (Though Amy sometimes does and she werks it outt.)
I’ve worn these black
earrings 3 or 4 times and they’ve held up well. They also get compliments, but
I think that might be party just because they’re gigantic and people therefore
feel compelled to mention them.
I’ve also worn the pink
necklace (that fringey one up above) a handful of times, but the fringe is a little more delicate. It's perhaps a little worse for the wear.
Anyway! Make some silly stuff. As some art class artwork behind the copier at school often tells me, Marilyn Monroe did in fact state that "it is better to be absolutely ridiculous than to be absolutely boring."
